The Copper John is very effective and versatile — this fly was created by John Barr of Boulder, CO in 1993. The combination of the beadhead and copper wire helps this fly sink deep quickly — where the trout are actively feeding on a consistent basis.

It imitates a variety of aquatic insects including caddisflies, mayflies, and stoneflies. Also, green, red, or black wire are very popular color variations for this pattern versus the traditional copper wire.
