I just finished up my first weekend targeting steelhead up on Elk Creek. I called in with some questions and got to speak directly with the owner of Perfect Hatch — Tony. He not only answered all of my questions, but he gave me pointers and things to try out during my first trip to go steelheading.

It was a tough weekend with several fights, but no luck. Until the last morning! I landed a beautiful steelhead to take home (pictured here). The rod and reel were GREAT!

Ordered the 7/8 wt to chase bass and larger warm water fish. This rod is hard to beat for the price. It’s handled largemouth, channel cats, and even still allows a good fight from crappie and bluegill. My only critique would be to offer the bundle or pre-spooled reel with a sink tip option as opposed to floating line only. Otherwise I recommend this rod as a first choice to any beginner or intermediate fly fisher.

I want to give big props to Perfect Hatch- I made a horrible mistake and ended up leaving my original 7/8 wt at a local pond after a kayak fish. The company was willing to give me a decent discount towards purchasing a replacement rod. Great company and very responsive. All flies shown in my photos were purchased from Perfect Hatch as well.

Using the 7/8 wt. Great bass rod. Even able to handle larger fish like smaller to medium cats, but also able to still have fun with crappie and bluegill. For the price, you can’t beat this package! Highly recommend for those looking to try some warm water fishing or chase larger game.

I have owned 3 of these staffs over the past 8 or so years and they really do stand up to a beating. I vow never to buy a $200 staff as these are available.

They had the segment of the fly rod. The broke on my kids rod and they had it and we fixed it. Super Cool company.

After purchasing several different non-digital thermometers from different companies, including some of the Chinese ones available on Amazon and one from Orvis, this is the first one I have used that has not broken almost immediately under normal wear and tear from fishing. Yes, I do a lot of bushwacking when I am fishing, but I am fairly careful - this was the first thermometer I have tried which didn't disappoint.

I use 4-strand floss for various smelt pattern trolling streamers.

I use these beaded worms after rain when high, stained water starts to recede. It’s my go to bait for wild brown trout when these conditions exist on the Little Juniata River in Pa. It consistently catches fish like this one this morning!

Great popper made to last. It really works! I ran this as a “popper dropper” using a damselfly nymph (also purchased from perfect hatch) and had great success with both. Highly recommend for those looking to chase bass and panfish.
